COURSE DESCRIPTION
BEGINNER-LEVEL
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Learn the universal design principles of Layout and Background Design including basic perspective and framing, setting the stage for the character and action and maintaining the continuity between a sequence of backgrounds in TV Animation. This beginner-level course is built for artists looking to solidify their foundation and take their skills to the next level.
This 6-hour intensive blends lecture, live demos, and real-time feedback. Students will explore how to create technically proficient layouts, while developing a stronger point of view in their design work along the way.

A basic understanding of Background Design and Layout for TV Animation

How to adapt to a show's style: creating/learning the visual language of a show

Examples and Analysis of Turçin's work as well as the work of other strong BG artists in the field

Review of a style bible of a completed show to understand how these principles are applied in production

Turçin Soylu is a multi-disciplinary artist working in the animation industry designing on projects such as Carol & the End of the World, Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld, Cat Burglar, and Charlotte. Her art has been featured in a diverse range of projects from preschool shows to adult animated shows to music videos and has contributed as a background designer, character designer, painter, animator, among other roles.
